This Day in History | 1898
The USS Maine explodes in Havana Cuba, setting off a series of events which would lead to the Spanish-American war.
Good Morning Middle Americans,
There are a lot of broken MAGA hearts out there in American today. This – after the Department of Justice failed to prosecute former deputy Director Andrew McCabe. The lack of prosecution comes despite a report from the DOJ’s own inspector general. That report said McCabe repeatedly lied to investigators about his leaks to the media regarding the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email scandal.
The Border Patrol is mobilizing to sanctuary cities across the country with elite agents to boost the police power of ICE.
Finally today, disgraced celebrity attorney Michael Avenatti is guilty AF. And he’s probably going to jail for a long time. He’s been convicted of trying to extort money from Nike.

Andrew McCabe, Ex-FBI Official Targeted by Trump, Won’t Face Charges
(AP) — Federal prosecutors have declined to charge former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, closing an investigation into whether the longtime target of President Donald Trump’s ire lied to federal officials about his involvement in a news media disclosure, McCabe’s legal team said.
The decision, coming at the end of a tumultuous week between the Justice Department and the White House, is likely to further agitate a president who has loudly complained that federal prosecutors have pursued cases against his allies but not against his perceived political enemies.

Border Patrol Will Deploy Elite Tactical Agents to Sanctuary Cities
(New York Times) — The Trump administration is deploying law enforcement tactical units from the southern border as part of a supercharged arrest operation in sanctuary cities across the country, an escalation in the president’s battle against localities that refuse to participate in immigration enforcement.
The specially trained officers are being sent to cities including Chicago and New York to boost the enforcement power of local ICE officers, according to two officials who are familiar with the secret operation. Additional agents are expected to be sent to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston, Boston, New Orleans, Detroit and Newark, N.J.

Disgraced Lawyer Michael Avenatti Found Guilty in Nike Extortion Trial
(CNBC) — Disgraced lawyer Michael Avenatti was convicted Friday by a jury of all three charges related to his efforts to extort up to $25 million from athletic apparel giant Nike, in what a top prosecutor called “an old-fashioned shakedown.”
The verdict in U.S. District Court in Manhattan came two years after Avenatti gained widespread notoriety for his representation of porn star Stormy Daniels in her legal disputes with President Donald Trump.
The bombastic attorney, who briefly flirted with running for the Democratic presidential nomination, faces two other pending federal criminal cases this spring related to alleged thefts of millions of dollars from clients, including Daniels, and other serious charges.
