Fauci Spars With Cruz, Paul Over Calls To Resign

Chief White House medical adviser Anthony Fauci is in an ongoing war of words with Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rand Paul (R-KY), recently responding to their calls for his resignation during an interview on CBS. Fauci called their criticisms “dangerous.”

“Sen. Cruz told the Attorney General you should be prosecuted,” Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan told Fauci, referring to an October hearing where Cruz called on Merrick Garland to investigate Fauci over gain-of-function research.

Fauci responded by invoking the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, suggesting that Cruz is the one who should face prosecution.

“Yeah,” Fauci replied. “I have to laugh at that. I should be prosecuted? What happened on January 6, Senator?”

“So it’s easy to criticize, but they’re really criticizing science because I represent science,” Fauci said in the interview. “That’s dangerous. To me, that’s more dangerous than the slings and the arrows that get thrown at me. I’m not going to be around here forever, but science is going to be here forever. And if you damage science, you are doing something very detrimental to society long after I leave. And that’s what I worry about.”

Cruz responded to Fauci’s remarks on Twitter, saying, “Fauci is an unelected technocrat who has distorted science and facts in order to exercise authoritarian control over millions of Americans.”

Paul, who has repeatedly called for Fauci to resign or be fired, also responded on Twitter.

“The absolute hubris of someone claiming THEY represent science. It’s astounding and alarming that a public health bureaucrat would even think to claim such a thing, especially one who has worked so hard to ignore the science of natural immunity,” Paul wrote.

Ted Cruz issues challenge to AOC, democrats to ‘go see the Biden cages’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) issued an inflammatory challenge to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other House Democrats to visit the “Biden cages” holding migrants at the border.

“Mr. President, every Democrat who stood up and lamented kids in cages, in the House of Representatives, Representative Ocasio-Cortez, has a famous photo of her grasping her head by the kids in cages,” Cruz said. “Well, I’m going to give a simple challenge for Representative Ocasio-Cortez and for every Democrat in this body. Go see the Biden cages with your own eyes.”

The photo Cruz referenced is from Ocasio-Cortez’s 2018 visit to a facility housing migrant children in West Texas. The congresswoman received widespread criticism for the photos, with some calling it a staged photo-op.

Ocasio-Cortez’s office responded to the criticism at the time, saying the allegations are “in no way related to reality or truth.”

Cruz made his comments during a Senate floor speech amid the ongoing border crisis that saw over 14,000 Haitian migrants under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas.

“Why does Joe Biden refuse to go to the Rio Grande Valley? Because if he goes, the TV cameras will come with him,” Cruz said. “Why does Kamala Harris, who’s supposed to be the border czar, she’s supposed to be in charge of this, why won’t she go to the Rio Grande Valley? Because if she went, the TV cameras would come and would show the Biden cages.”

“Nothing to see here. Anyone want to know what Joe Biden’s favorite ice cream flavor is? That’s the news!”
